Three Car Essentials To Keep In Your Trunk

Car Essentials You Should Always Keep In Your Trunk

Cars, just like life, can be highly unpredictable and you never know what the road is going to throw your way.

When the time comes you want to be well prepared for whatever you may need.

There are certain car essentials that everyone should have and I’m surprised just how many people don’t carry them around.

Here are a few of the most important car essentials to keep in your trunk:

Food and Water

If your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere you probably aren’t going to starve to death, but you probably will get hungry and thirsty regardless.

If you are stuck in the desert and have to change a flat you will get thirsty. If you have to wait a few hours for help you will want something to snack on.

Equally important, if you’re in a location that’s prone to natural disasters, it’s a good idea to carry that stuff around with you anyway. It doesn’t have to be fancy, just a case of bottled water and some nonperishable foods.

Things like cans of beans or chili are good ideas and Power Bars can hold you over for some time. Lastly, don’t forget the ever faithful Twinkie to top it all off.

A Flashlight

A good flashlight might be the single most important thing you can carry in your car. You never know when you will be out on the road at night and have a flat or your car overheats. You will need to be able to see what you are doing.

There are a couple of good options here:

One, you can buy a heavy duty Mag-Lite. These are powerful lights and they can also be used for self-defense. If you do use one pack some extra batteries as well.

The other option is a battery free emergency light. These windup lights use kinetic energy to power them instead of batteries. While they aren’t as bright, they often have an additional red signal light to call for help and a built in radio to listen for weather or disaster information.

Either way, make sure you have one or the other.

Jumper Cables

If the flashlight isn’t the most important then jumper cables surely must be.  A good pair of Heavy-Duty Battery Booster Cables can get you out of a lot of trouble. If your battery ever dies and you need a jump start then you will be glad you have these car essentials.

Sure you might have AAA but what if they can’t get to you for a couple of hours? You will be glad you have cables, just make sure you know how to use them.

Whether you drive a new Altima and or used Jeep, everyone should have these car essentials. A blanket and change of clothes can always be useful and of course, a first aid kit is always a good idea as well, but just getting the three things mentioned above is a great start.
